More winter holiday fun

The second week of our winter holiday program brought more theme days, special visitors and lots of laughter. Here is what the week of 13 to 17 July looked like.

Building Day

A parent who works in construction visited to show the children real tools and explain how buildings are made. The children then became builders themselves with blocks and construction toys.

Christmas in July

The children wore Santa costumes, decorated our Christmas tree, sang Christmas songs and enjoyed festive activities indoors and out.

Crazy Hair Day and Jersey Day

On Crazy Hair Day the children showed off wild and creative hairstyles, with extra hair accessories kindly brought in by a parent. On Jersey Day our champions wore their sports jerseys and talked about their favourite sports.

Music Day

A parent visited to play the violin for the children, who joined in a fun music game afterwards.

Letters and numbers

Even during the holidays, small groups kept practising letters and counting using the abacus and letter games.

Welcoming a student educator

We welcomed a student educator for a two-week placement. We love supporting the next generation of early childhood teachers.

Try this at home

• Build a tower with blocks or boxes and count how many pieces you used.
• Play a “freeze dance” game with different kinds of music.
• Use pasta or buttons to count to 10, then 20.

Visit Sophie’s Cottage

Sophie’s Cottage Kindergarten is a small, family-run preschool for children aged 3 to 6 at 9 Sophie Street, Telopea, open 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Families join us from Eastwood, Telopea and the suburbs around us.
