This week our 3 to 6 year olds explored the weather, autumn and the world around them. Here is what the week of 11 to 15 May looked like.
Weather and seasons
Our Bees and Butterflies began learning about weather, the seasons and the changes we notice in nature during autumn. The children talked about rain, wind and sunshine, and how trees and plants change as the weather gets cooler.
Nature and leaves
In the morning the children traced autumn leaves with different coloured pencils. At group time the Bees listened to the book Look Inside Our World and talked about all the living things around us.
Colour experiments
When the sun came back out, our Bees were busy with colour experiments, mixing colours and watching new ones appear. Simple experiments like this build curiosity and early science skills.
Berry smoothies
On Friday the Butterflies made strawberry and banana smoothies. We talked about how strawberries grow on small plants and why fruit is good for our bodies.
School Readiness folders
In our School Readiness Program, children move through five hands-on stations and then complete a short focused worksheet. These worksheets are kept in each child’s own School Readiness folder, so families and educators can see how their skills grow across the year.
Try this at home
- Look out the window each morning and ask your child to tell you the weather.
- Collect a few autumn leaves and trace or rub over them with crayons.
- Mix two colours of paint or food colouring in water and see what new colour you get.
