Our week, 7 to 11 September 2026
Our Week at Sophie’s

This was a very proud week for Sophie’s Cottage. We received our Assessment and Rating result, celebrated Father’s Day with our families and kept learning through play. Here is what the week of 7 to 11 September looked like.

A proud moment for our preschool

Sophie’s Cottage Kindergarten has been rated Meeting the National Quality Standard across all seven Quality Areas. The rating looks at everything from our learning program and children’s health and safety to our relationships with families. It reflects the care and hard work of our whole team, and the support of our families.

Welcome back, Miss Laila

We were so happy to welcome Miss Laila back to Sophie’s Cottage after her time away with family. The children were very excited to see her.

Father’s Day afternoon

The children helped prepare for our Father’s Day celebration on Thursday afternoon, when dads, grandads and special people joined us for play and connection. With Miss Olga, the Butterflies also drew their favourite person in their family and wrote a short introduction about them.

Music and the mud kitchen

A parent visited with a guitar and sang for the children, who had lots of questions about how the guitar works. Outside, the mud kitchen was busy with cupcakes and pancakes, and one group found a millipede to observe.

The tricky letters p and q

In School Readiness we focused on lowercase p and q, two letters that young children often mix up. The children made them with playdough and practised telling them apart through hands-on activities.

Try this at home

  • Ask your child to draw someone in your family and tell you about them.
  • Write p and q on paper and play a game of “which one is it?”.
  • Make “mud kitchen” pretend food in the garden with water, dirt and old pots.
