This week our 3 to 6 year olds learned how to look after their teeth and finished Term 2 with lots of proud moments. Here is what the week of 29 June to 3 July looked like.
The dentist is in
For Dental Health Week we set up a pretend dental clinic. The children took turns being the dentist and the patient, using a dental kit to count and check teeth. Role play like this makes a real dentist visit less scary.
“Sometimes” food
After a week of healthy cooking, the Butterflies baked cupcakes, a “sometimes” food. We talked about why sweet foods are fine now and then, and why brushing our teeth afterwards matters.
Self-portraits
Children used mirrors to draw self-portraits, looking carefully at their eyes, nose, mouth and hair before drawing each part. It builds observation, fine motor skills and a strong sense of self.
Sequencing and stories
In School Readiness children put sequencing cards in order, telling what happens first, next and last. In the book corner, children “read” stories by talking about the pictures, an important early reading skill.
Mid-year reports
Families received each child’s mid-year report, showing their learning, strengths and goals for the second half of the year.
Try this at home
- Let your child brush a toy’s teeth, then their own.
- Draw a self-portrait together in front of a mirror.
- Ask your child to retell their day in order: first, next, then, last.
