This week we celebrated Family Week and got ready for Father’s Day. Our 3 to 6 year olds talked about the people who love them, welcomed spring and played together in a big way. Here is what the week of 31 August to 4 September looked like.
Every family is special
The children learned about the many different kinds of families. At group time our Bees introduced their own family members to their friends, which built confidence speaking in front of a group and a strong sense of belonging.
Our hair salon role play and outdoor sponge play were very popular this week too.
Spring has sprung
With the first hot days of spring, we talked about sun safety: hats on, sunscreen on and finding shade. The children also had a great time with the construction trucks in the sandpit.
The letter b and beginning sounds
In School Readiness the children practised the letter b, learned how it is different from p, and listened for the first sound in words such as banana. Hearing the first sound in a word is one of the first steps to reading.
Parachute play
We finished the week with parachute play. Lifting and lowering the parachute together takes teamwork, listening and timing, and there were lots of smiles and laughter.
Try this at home
- Look at family photos together and let your child tell you who is who.
- Say a word and ask your child for its first sound: “banana starts with b”.
- Make sun safety a habit: hat and sunscreen before going outside.
