Book Week is one of our favourite weeks of the year. Our 3 to 6 year olds dressed up, told their own stories and celebrated reading with their families. Here is what the week of 24 to 28 August looked like.
Our Book Week parade
On Thursday the children came dressed as their favourite book characters for our Book Week Parade. We danced, talked about our favourite characters and showed off some wonderful costumes. A big thank you to all the families who joined us.
Writing our own storybooks
During Book Week, children were invited to create their own storybooks. They came up with characters, drew the pictures and told the story out loud. It builds imagination, language and a real love of books.
On a rainy day our Bees joined the Butterflies for a special Book Week story time indoors.
Tadpoles in the classroom
For News Time, tadpoles arrived in our fish tank. The children watched them swim and learned about frogs, eggs and how tadpoles grow into frogs, with lots of new words along the way.
The letters B and D
In School Readiness the children learned the letters B and D, practised their sounds and thought of words that start with each one: bag, bees, bug, bear, dog, duck and dragon. B and D are easy to mix up, so we practise them side by side.
Fun Friday
On Friday the children made pizza, used scissors on playdough, explored animal books and went on a mini beast expedition around the garden.
Try this at home
- Let your child “read” a favourite book to you by telling the story from the pictures.
- Fold a few sheets of paper into a little book and help your child make their own story.
- Play a sound game: “I spy something that starts with b… or d”.
