Term 3 is here. Our 3 to 6 year olds settled back into routine and spent the week learning about feelings, kindness and looking after their minds and bodies. Here is what the week of 20 to 24 July looked like.
Welcome back
Some of our children took part in developmental checks with allied health professionals this week. They were brave, listened carefully and tried every activity with confidence.
We also welcomed Miss Yolanda, who is joining our room while Miss Laila takes some well-deserved leave.
Learning about emotions
We focused on emotional security and understanding how others feel. Through playdough, icing clay and sensory play, children talked about different feelings and what helps them feel calm and safe.
Kindness and friendship
At group time we talked about kind actions and how they make happy hearts. Outside, the sandpit kitchen was a favourite, with children creating and cooking together and sharing ideas.
Healthy minds and bodies
On a sunny Thursday the children danced to music to support their physical development, then explored a prehistoric sensory play activity before group learning.
Free speech and language screening
Kairos Speech Therapy offered speech and language screening for children aged 2 and over. Early checks help families know if any extra support could help before school.
Try this at home
- Make faces in the mirror together: happy, sad, surprised, cross. Name each feeling.
- Ask your child, “What is one kind thing you did today?”
- Have a dance break after dinner.
