This week our 3 to 6 year olds learned all about how people get from place to place. Here is what the week of 14 to 18 September looked like.
Land, water and air
The Butterflies watched a short video about ground, water and air transport and talked about how each one is different. With Miss Laila they looked closely at cars and the parts that make them work. The Bees read a transport story with Miss Navdeep.
Dress-ups and water play
The warm weather brought out the water containers, and the children had a great time pouring, filling and splashing. Inside, the dress-up corner was full of superheroes, princesses and train drivers.
Five School Readiness stations
Our School Readiness Program used five hands-on stations. A key literacy focus was telling apart lowercase p and q, through tracing, playdough and matching games.
Getting ready for big school in 2027
For families whose children start primary school in 2027, we began planning each child’s Transition to School Statement. This statement helps the child’s new teacher understand their strengths, interests and how best to support them from day one.
Try this at home
- On a car or bus trip, sort what you see into land, water and air transport.
- Give your child a tub of water, cups and a funnel and let them pour and measure.
- Talk about the school your child will go to and what they are looking forward to.
